PREPARE YOUR WALL
Prior to installation, we recommend using sandpaper to sand down any bumps, texture and imperfections on your walls. With a damp cloth, wipe down the entire surface, ensuring the wall is clean, smooth and dry. Avoid using chemical cleaners prior to hanging your wallpaper, as certain kinds of chemicals can cause the adhesive to fail.
Allow any freshly painted walls a minimum of 30 days to dry before installing your wallpaper and ensure that the paint you’ve used does not have a Teflon or silicone base, as this will prevent proper adhesion. While our wallpaper is completely opaque, for best results, we do recommend installing your Peel and Stick Wallpaper over smooth, light-coloured satin- or gloss-painted walls. Any especially dark or vibrant variations in paint colour may result in an alteration of the appearance of your wallpaper design. It is not recommended that you install your wallpaper over any textured surfaces, as this may result in the texture showing through, and inhibit the adhesion of the wallpaper.
If you’re installing your wallpaper straight onto plaster, you must ensure that you size your wall using a good quality primer or sealer, as this will help to seal the porous surface.
CHECK YOUR DESIGN
Once you have received your wallpaper, lay the panels out on a flat, dry surface and leave them to rest for at least 5 hours. Please ensure that you inspect each panel carefully before you begin to install. If you notice any defects with the material or design, including creases, marks, scuffs, damaged or rolled panel edges, or issues with the image, please contact us straight away – do NOT install the wallpaper.
OTHER POINTS TO NOTE
- Please do not pre-trim your mural before installing.
- When installing your wallpaper, avoid rubbing the wallpaper surface vigorously and overworking the seams.
- For best results, it is recommended that two people install the wallpaper together.
- When lining up your panels, please keep in mind that not all wall edges, ceilings and cornices will be perfectly straight or level. Before installing your first drop, we recommend measuring the distance from floor to cornice/ceiling at the start of your wall, end of your wall, as well as one or two additional points along the centre of the wall to ensure that you start the first panel with enough overhang to make up for any inconsistencies in the ceiling level.
- LET’S GET STARTED!
Your design is supplied in individual panels called ‘drops’. Each drop is numbered on the bottom of the panel to ensure ease of installation. Carefully unpack each of the drops and lay them out in order. Ensure your wall has been properly prepared as per the PREPARE YOUR WALL instructions above.
- INSTALLING THE FIRST PANEL
Find your first panel (marked Panel 1) and carefully peel back the backing sheet about 10cm from the top. Starting from the left, line up the top edge of your panel with your ceiling or cornice.
Carefully peel away the wallpaper from the backing paper working 10cm at a time, gently smoothing it onto the wall with a soft, dry cloth. Work your way down slowly, smoothing outwards to remove any bubbles as you go until you reach the bottom of the panel.
If you need to re-position any part of the panel, simply peel the appropriate amount away from the wall and re-apply, gently smoothing the mural out as you go.
- ADDITIONAL PANELS
Continue on applying the second panel in the same way, making sure to line up the straight left edge of Panel 2. Work slowly, ensuring the design matches up as you go.
Follow the same process of smoothing the panel, ensuring this is done very gently, and remember not to rub vigorously, or overwork the seams. Continue to apply all subsequent panels in an orderly fashion, finally installing the last panel on the far right.
- TRIMMING EXCESS
Once all of your drops have been installed, use a Stanley knife and a straight edge to carefully trim any excess wallpaper from the top and bottom of your panels, plus the far left and far right sides. Work slowly and carefully and ensure that you use a sharp blade to achieve the best results.
DISCLAIMER - Please note that, while Love Your Space’s Peel and Stick wallpaper has been rigorously tested and is designed to withstand general residential and light commercial applications, we cannot guarantee that under any and all circumstances the material will stay completely in-tact and/or that no adhesive will remain on the surface once it has been removed, or that your surface will not adhere to it. The actual performance life and removal of your wallpaper will depend on a variety of factors, including preparation of the walls, the age and type of paint used on your walls, angle and direction of exposure to excessive heat and light, application methods, environmental conditions and cleaning/maintenance of the wallpaper. In case of the wallpaper being used in areas of high temperatures or humidity, high altitudes and industrially polluted areas the performance will be further reduced.
SAFETY FIRST!
Please ensure wallpaper is installed by an adult and that no packaging is left behind for small children to play with.
Please check wallpaper regularly to ensure they remain attached securely.
